Meet the 'Maids
|
Name: Olivia Meyer
Role: Maid of Honor
Friends For: 10 years
Location: Washington, DC
Occupation: School Coordinator for Everybody Wins! DC -
a nonprofit for children's literacy
How We Met: I met Olivia the day I moved into my freshman dorm at the University of Minnesota (was that really 10 years ago?!). She lived two doors down and I spent many nights playing Phase 10 and watching "Friends" in her dorm room. After college we shared our first "big girl" apartment for 2 years in Minneapolis. We still manage to see each other a few times a year even though she now lives in DC.
Favorite Memory: Picking my favorite Olivia memory has been very difficult, but the winning moment has to be the time we saw Scottie Pippen at a bar in Minneapolis. She didn't believe us and walked over to him, put her elbows on his table, and slurred, "Are you Scottie Pippen?" He was indeed, and seemed mildly amused (his wife however, did not). There are many great stories from that night alone, but that moment is one of my favorite memories of all time.

Name: Lindsey Vander Wielen
Role: Bridesmaid
Friends For: 21 years
Location: West Bend, WI
Occupation: Production Coordinator, filmmaker, handbag designer
How We Met: Not long after the Vander Wielen's moved to our neighborhood, my brother told me to go introduce myself so I would leave him and the other boys alone. I rang their doorbell, and introduced myself. Barb told the girls to come over so they could meet me. Lindsey was 5, and mostly hid behind her mom. I don't remember her saying anything but we've been friends ever since!
Favorite Memory Together:

Name: Heather Vander Wielen
Role: Bridesmaid
Friends For: 21 years
Location: Chicago, IL
Occupation: Front of House Manager, Actress
How We Met: Not long after the Vander Wielen's moved to our neighborhood, my brother told me to go introduce myself so I would leave him and the other boys alone. I rang their doorbell, and introduced myself. Barb told the girls to come over so they could meet me. Heather walked right up to the screen door and proudly exclaimed "I can ride a tricycle!" She was 3, and we've been friends ever since!
Favorite Memory Together: After 21 years of friendship, its so hard to pick just one! I would have to say the time Heather and I entered the school talent show as a tumbling act (and won!). I think I was in 8th grade and she was in 4th grade. I remember practicing over and over in her basement to "Funky Dunky" by Harry Connick Jr.

Name: Katie Albrecht
Role: Junior Bridesmaid
Family For: 11 years
Location: West Bend, WI
Occupation: 5th Grader
How We Met: Katie is my younger cousin who was born right before my senior year of high school. Though I was away at college and didn't get to babysit her like I did her older brothers, we formed a very special bond. Katie and I are the only girls in a sea of brothers and cousins when the Albrecht family gathers at our grandparents' house (the other girl cousins live in Florida). Now that I am living back in West Bend, it is so fun to have a girl around to take shopping or to see a movie.
Favorite Memory Together: My favorite memories of Katie are the times that we have a girls' day. I love taking her to lunch and going to see a movie |
